FAITH@HOME YOUTH MINISTRY

Our faith-at-Home Youth Ministry is designed for the church to partner with the family to build a faith in teens that lasts and is relevant in today's world.  We firmly believe it is the parents responsibility to be the primary discipler in the lives of their children, but as a church we realize the role we play as supplement to faith development of children an teens. Our Faith@Home Youth Ministry priorities are as follows:

Priority #1: Faith in the home & parent-to-teen discipleship.  Typically when children become teens faith@home and the discipleship in the home stops.  This is unfortunate because it is in the teens years when discipleship is first possible.  We offer tools for our parents to continue to do faith-at-home and discipleship with their teens throughout the teen years.

Priority #2: Biblical teaching in the home and in the church.  We want to ensure that we are teaching the bible in our church, but we also want to make sure we are supplying parents of teens with resources and ideas to share the bible with their teens at Home.

Priority #3: Multi-generational faith relationships: A connection between teens and the whole church. This includes a relationship between teens and older and younger members as well as with their own parents while at church.

Priority #4 Discipleship for those who don’t have christian parents. We know that discipleship in the home is God's intention for the faith-training of each generation.  However, not everyone has christian parents, and some teens have a family situation that has a faith-at-home-inability. When the home has a faith-at-home-inability our youth ministry wants to make sure we can connect them with caring adults and families that will help them grow in their faith and become genuine disciples of christ.

Priority #5: Faith-based peer relationship and activities.  The last piece of our youth ministry is the part you are more familiar with.  We want our teens to feel like they are a part of the church.  A big part of helping them feel included in the church is peers and friends who are in the same place in their faith journey.  Although this is clearly important, many youth ministries including ours, have emphasized this priority too much in the past.Youth ministry has been unbalanced by placing the foundation of its' ministry on peer-relationships.

At Northwest Church of Christ we firmly believe in a faith-at-home style of outh Ministry.  We currently have a parents of teens class on Sunday morning that started on 1/27/13.  It will be an 8 week class and we will be offering the notes, powerpoints and webinars below as the series continues.
