FAMILY AND YOUTH MINISTER SEARCH

The Northwest Church, located in St. Petersburg FL, is seeking an individual to work full time with our students and families. Northwest is unique in its welcoming attitude, diversity, leadership, minister longevity, facilities, and forward thinking approach to ministry in a secular context. Our membership consists of approximately 500 with numerous visitors each Sunday.

WHAT IS ST. PETE LIKE?

Our city is on the west coast of Florida and St. Petersburg is surrounded by the Gulf of Mexico on our west and Tampa Bay to our east. The city has expanded its downtown forming a thriving and energetic location. There are many adventures to explore in St. Pete including beaches, boating, golf, city life, and more. We are located less than two hours from Disney, four hours from Miami and eight hours from Key West.  Tampa International airport is a 20-30 minute drive and serves a multitude of destinations. St. Petersburg is a great place to live and provides unique ministry opportunities.  The city of St. Petersburg is a progressive city, with people from all over the country and world. Although this contributes to a secular culture, it also provides an environment where many locals are searching for places to discover and explore their faith.

STUDENT MINISTRY VISION

Our primary goal in our student ministry is to equip parents to develop the faith of their teens.  We believe the best chance for children and teens to remain faithful in today's world is to learn how to follow Christ in their home.  We regularly have marriage, parenting, and other family classes.  We also distribute faith-at-home tips and ideas to help families incorporate faith in their regular family life.  We know that not all teens have a believing family.  We have strong desire to reach teens outside of a walk with God, to encourage their knowledge and awareness of God's love for them.  We believe that we are called to be light to our own community and desire that Northwest's community of believers understands their mission.

Our youth ministry at current time is approximately 25 to 30 involved high/middle schoolers with a predominance of middle school. Our "Faith City" ministry will soon supply a large number of children with good family support as well as a number of children with a less than ideal home life.  We are extremely excited about our future and want to be diligent in praying for God's wisdom as we seek the best person for our congregation.

LEADERSHIP

Our eldership consists of 6 men with their wives and our full time ministry staff consists of our senior minister, Jim Shannon who has been ministering at Northwest for 35 years, Joel Singleton, Associate Minister, who served Northwest for the last 12 years, and Leslie Burkett (2 years), our Faith City Director. We have one full time secretary, Melissa Cunningham (15 years) and a part time secretary/children's minister, Kym Samek and a number of volunteers who assist in the office. We believe very much in being a team in ministry.  We have regular staff meetings, lunches, make visits together, and support one-another in the highs and lows of ministry.

FACILITIES

Northwest has just updated our facilities.  We built a new building that houses Faith City (our kids program), 4 adult classrooms, 1500 square foot teen center, and our staff offices.  We also renovated our worship center, and added a cafe, patio, and playground adjacent to our worship center.
