The Impact of Camp

This was written by Jessie Wert who was one of the Counselors for our week of camp. Thanks for sharing Jessie!

Once again I have returned home from a week of bible camp at CFBC (Central Florida Bible Camp) with many, many emotions and reflections from throughout the week.

I am blessed beyond measure to be able to spend a week with so many kids, counselors, kitchen staff, directors, guest speakers, and most of all, fellow Christian’s I got to work alongside of and call friends.

I have looked forward to this week since I left last year. I miss it already and can’t wait until next year.

~ Was it stress free? Absolutely not.

~ Were the kids in my cabin Ángels? Umm… no.

~ Did I get an unexpected education from 6th & 7th graders? Oh yeah

~ Was it really hot out? The hottest

~ Did a lot of the kids have really sad stories? You better believe it.

~ Did the counselors and directors get 4 hours of sleep each night? Definitely not

~ Did a piece of my heart stay with each one of those kids in my cabin when they left yesterday? Guaranteed

~ Do I wish we could make the lives of those children better and know they will seek their true identity in Christ? Every second

~ Did one of my kids stop and stare when we told him we loved him…only to respond with; “people don’t ever tell me that”? He did

~ Did that same kid watch his mom pass away on life support in front of his little eyes? Yes, unfortunately that happened.

I could go on and on and be super discouraged for all the things that some of these kids have to deal with on a day to day basis.

Although I might not be able to make their daily life better, Jesus can. And I am so thankful that I can rest assured that at least for one week I know they were loved on, fed well, had clean clothes to wear, and could undoubtedly feel the love and presence of Jesus around them.

Thank you Casey Stringer, Northwest Church of Christ, Eddie & Lisa, and soooo many others for making this week possible!

Thank you Lord for loving these children and for every single person that made CFBC - South Florida Week a success. Be with them as they return home and keep their little hearts safe. Thank you for seeing old friends again and gaining so many new ones and help the seeds that were planted this year to be watered and grow into something beautiful. Amen
